Be Happy, Be Inspired

Really?
I'm only on my second bag and I'm getting repeat products? Essentially three of the products in my July bag is the same as in my June bag... My beauty preferences are pretty varied too, I have a lot of choices/likes selected so there was really no need for this to happen.

That coupled with the fact that it seems to take so long to arrive. I'm done ipsy. This is not how to make a good first impression.

Good day,

For the longest time I've been tempted with the idea of subscribing to a 'beauty box'. Back in the UK I had a brief subscription to Birchbox and the only reason I cancelled it was because of the move. Last month I found myself browsing a subreddit called r/BeautyBoxes and my interest piqued once again. By the time I'd signed up I'd missed out on May's bag, so it feels like I've been waiting for a long time.
Somewhat annoyingly, despite trying my best to avoid any spoilers before it arrived I did end up seeing what was in my box online. Thankfully I was not disappointed, Personally I feel like beauty boxes can be really hit or miss hence the reluctance to commit to one long term but ipsy have so far impressed me! I enjoyed creating a beauty profile, which they use to tailor what they send in your box and over all it feels like a more personal experience. It also reduces the risk of you receiving items you just don't want. So far, so good! I should note that even though you can preview what products are in your box, the shades may vary to the ones in your personal box.

And here's what I actually got...

I'm happy with the selection and look forward to giving them a try!

and that's ok.
I don't want to be anymore. That is also ok.

Here's my story.
I'm loosing weight because I want my body to be healthier, to work better, to be able to do more. Not because I feel shamed into looking a certain way. This is something I've had to drill into myself over the last few months. For a long time I felt that in order for me to be 'liked' or 'accepted' I'd need to look a certain way, be under a certain weight, but over the years so much has taught me that, that is complete bullshit. Why is it that we feel that way? Why for so long did I feel ashamed of how I looked. I'm sad that I wasted so much time worrying about what I looked like to other people when all that should have mattered is how I felt, whether I liked what I was wearing that day.

In January my life changed entirely. My husband and I moved to the US, packing up everything we own, saying goodbye to everyone we knew, and starting again. Well for me at least. My husband was being transferred through work, so same job, different people. I however would be out of work until I got an EAD approved. This meant I'd have a lot of free time. Time that I vowed I would use to 'work' on myself, until I was able to 'work', in the literal sense.

My weight has been an issue for a good decade, going up and down significantly in that time. Over the years I've tried so many diets, that work fantastically, until you stop. I'd always find an excuse, for everything, why I couldn't work out, why I ate the way I did. But when we moved I was given an opportunity to completely change my routine and my mindset, To change everything. The difference is, this time I'm not on a diet. I'm not doing anything fancy. I count what goes in, I increased my exercise. I still have days where I sit around and do nothing, and nights where we order way too much food and eat it all! The difference is I'm way more conscious of that, I make adjustments to my meals if I fancy eating something a little more exuberant later on, i.e the deep dish pizza we had on my birthday was preceded with a 2 hour walk around Chicago. It's all about moderation. This is not a quick fix, and it's going to take a lot longer than at first, I thought I wanted it to but I'm ok with that. Because I know only too well how unattainable the lifestyle of someone who doesn't eat carbs but looses 4 lbs a week is. Been there. Several times. I even have the t-shirt, that's now too small because I gained the weight I lost and then some. If you have any interest in what I have to say you might like to follow my journey through other mediums. Here are links to sites I have found invaluable in helping me to achieve my goals, through support of others and learning to be more accountable.  Twinbody and My fitness pal.

I thought I had an idea of what I wanted to get across in this post but, turns out that I have way more to say than I could possible write in one post, So I'm sure there will be a plethora of posts in the future on this subject.

Thank you for reading.

Hey.
Today I'm excited and I don't get excited very often. That's not to say it isn't easily achieved.

The source of my excitement? Thrifting!

I did enjoy a good browse of the 'charity shops' back home in the UK, but since moving to America and finding out my local thrift shop is actually amazing, I love nothing more than having a good rummage and seeing what bargains I can find. My local thrift shop, is pretty big and stock is coming in all the time. Lucky for me. Some items still even have tags on them from the shop, so have obviously never been 'worn'. I didn't even know this was a thing. Back home, no one would donate anything that had tags on? or if they did they wouldn't end up in your run of the mill charity shop on the high street. What I love about this particular store is that their pricing is really reasonable. I've never paid more than $12 for any one item and remember a lot of this stuff is pretty much brand new.

I love finding something, seeing that its only $4 and still has the tags on from stores that would charge quadruple the price for it originally! What's better?
The trouble, of course is finding clothes in your size. I've seen so many things that I love but find them to be two sizes too small! luck of the draw I guess.
Anyway, the point of this post is not to brag, I simply want to share the joy I've found in buying clothes second hand, knowing that you're getting a great deal. That someone else's junk is another's treasure. Equally knowing that when I donate clothes, someone else, is experiencing the same joy along the line. Maybe, like me, you love it. Maybe it's just not your thing, either way thank you for reading. Happy thrifting.

Hey,
It's been a while since I wrote one of these, I was writing up a review on amazon I thought I'd share it here too!
I'm going to review a set of gel polishes that I bought on amazon Here. I'd never heard of the brand, or used their products before but wanted some new gel polishes in a variety of colours. You can find sets for anything between $10-$100 of varying quality. When I placed the order back in April, I was a little skeptical. Eight bottles of gel polish for $13.99? They can't be that good, but the reviews looked ok and I figured I had nothing to loose. I was initially drawn in by the colour selection and then of course the price. They're right up my street and looked perfect for summer. The package did take a while to arrive, a little over five weeks, but this was something I was aware of when making the order.

The products themselves are worth the wait! For me they perform as well as my more 'expensive' gel polishes, and for the price they are definitely value for money. The colours look vibrant in the bottle, but do apply quite sheer,  I found I needed three coats to create the more opaque coverage I like. This is not unusual for gel polish, and I find applying several thinner coats a better method. The application is smooth and the consistency is easy to work with. They worked well with my existing base and top coat. Whilst I haven't had chance to apply them all yet, I am looking forward to trying them.

The bottles are 8ml and personally I like them smaller because I find them easier to use up, meaning less waste! Being that you get 8 colours to choose from, I'm sure they will last a good while! For me to comment on their longevity would be pointless, I'm a nail polish addict that can't keep a particular shade on for longer than a few days! My assumption would be that they would last as long as any well cared for gel manicure depending on the environment and activities of the wearer! Over all, super happy!

The ones
that I have tried so far are pictured below. Not my neatest work but you can see what they look like.

I hope this review was useful. I highly recommend these polishes, they are great value for money and perform really well and come in really on trend colours. I hope I haven't missed anything out, Like I said its beens a while since I wrote one of these!
I hope you're all having a great day.
Thank you for reading.

Infuse your life with action. Don't wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen... yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.

Hello, today I want to talk about something or rather 'some things' that I have been absolutely loving using right now.

Just after Christmas I was walking round John Lewis looking for something to buy as a little post Christmas sale treat. I wasn't really sure what I even wanted to be honest and I was just browsing the general beauty section. Something about this set caught my eye, and at £20ish pounds I was sold. I've  never really used origins products before but the fact that it was a set of four face masks (literally obsessed with face masks!) I was happy to make the purchase. I believe the set was limited edition as I can't seem to find it online anywhere aside this eBay seller, I know that's the least helpful link ever but you get the gist. Anyway! Where was I? I have since tried each mask on more than one occasion and can say that each has great qualities, depending on my skins particular needs (I have combination skin ranging from super oily to dry as hell) which is one of the selling points as I quite often have different skin needs. My favourite has to be the 10 minute rescue. It just feels simply wonderful on the skin, a cooling, refreshing mask that leaves the skin super soft. As seen below. Rather fetching isn't it?

My second favourite is the GinZing mask, again a really refreshing clear mask that leaves skin feeling awake. Nice scent too.

Admittedly, I have used the other two less than the first two, simply because I have enjoyed them both so much. The charcoal one is ok, it's not mind glowingly good but it definitely leaves the skins feeling clean. Lastly, the over night moisture mask. Again a lovely product but as I haven't had much call for a moisturising product lately I find myself reaching for it less. Overall super happy with my purchase, and I would happily pay full price for the first two I mentioned! Thank you for reading.

Good day, hello! Welcome to my blog.
You're blogging again?... Why yes! Well... Apparently. We'll see.

I do miss my little corner of the internet and have wanted to get my blog up and running again for a while, really I have. And really, that's as far as I have ever gotten and honestly I'll be surprised if anyone on the planet actually reads this anyway. Alas. Let's get this thing going shall we!?

It's nearly October which is actually crazy to me, I don't know where this year has gone. But I'm looking forward to the cooler weather, and the run up to Christmas and all that's in between. I really do love this time of year, the last few months have been a blur in all honesty, summer is always super busy at work and this year was no exception. It will be nice to just wind down a little. I hope, But life has a way of throwing things off track doesn't it? We'll see.

For now, I'm enjoying the crispness of the air and subtle changes that come with the beginnings of a new season and the promise of change. Let's do this.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this so I'll end my little update there.
Thank you for reading.

Gee wiz! It's been a while hasn't it!? I don't really know where to start to be honest but I've had the urge to blog again for a while. I just have no idea where I want this blog to go or what I'm really here for you know, I really want to find my place in the blogging community. I'm just not sure where/if I fit in or what I can offer.

Today is a bank holiday, which means I'm off work. Which also means I have 'time' to do a quick post.
So...

Hi.

How are you?

Good! Glad we've got that out the way.

I'm not sure what this post is going to be about. I have a feeling update posts are marginally more boring than I anticipate and therefore want to stay away from doing that. Part of the reason I am ridiculously bad at updating this blog is just plain laziness. Another reason, as of my last post I had uploaded exactly 250, and I just really liked having a round number of posts. Very sad.

Well this is going nowhere is it?

I guess I could share with you something I recently received as a birthday present. Lets go back a few weeks. It was late in the evening, I was on the phone to my mum and we started talking about an idea I had for a tattoo. I sent her a picture of the source of the inspiration an a brief description about how I want it too look/location etc. Bare in mind, My mum generally hates tattoos and is always telling me not to get anymore (I have two small ones already)

My idea comes from this

I saw this on Tumblr a while ago and fell in love with it. Self belief is something I really struggle with and at the time I was really down about not feeling good enough so it stood out.

I started to think about having a tattoo related to this and came up with a rough idea of having a tree with a broken branch and a bird in flight above it. I want it all black (silhouette) coming from the side of my ribs up  towards inside of my shoulder blades? does that make sense to anyone else?

Anyway.

Fast forward a few weeks to my birthday and my mum said I'm going to send your birthday present in the post make sure you're in and I want your honest opinion? Right, ok!

When it arrived I was excited to see what she had sent me... Take a look!

She had painted me her interpretation of my idea (using acrylics) and I absolutely love it! I'm so proud of my mum because she only recently started to paint (since joining as class) and I think she has a real talent for  it.  It went up on our wall within hours and I'm genuinely impressed with what she came up with. It's beautiful, and not only does it mean a lot because she painted it but also the sentiment behind it. Part of me thinks she did it to try and put me off getting it as a tattoo, and to be fair it has stalled my plans. Will it put me off completely? probably not! (Sorry Mum)

My tattoo is going to be a gift to myself, and I feel like it owe it to all the times I've told myself I wasn't good enough/can't do something because I'm scared of failing etc.

So from the bottom of my heart, Mum. Thank You. I love you, I love this painting and I love the quote that inspired it all.

Thank you for reading.

I recently bought the Vichy Dermablend foundation in the shade Opal. This is what it looks like on my skin. I was not having a 'good skin day' on this particular day but that seems to be the case more often than not these days, but as you can see the foundation has good coverage. It is light in texture and the pigmentation is great. I have combination skin (oily t-zone plus dry patches) and I think if my skin was in better condition it would last longer, but as my skin became more oily over the day it did start to slide. I also have a problem with open pores and this didn't do much to help with that. I'm definitely going to try it with a primer underneath because I think the texture/condition of my skin greatly affected how it looked/applied. I do really like this foundation though and I think with a few alterations I can make it work for my skin. A little goes a long way, so you do get your money's worth. I got mine from boots for £15.99.
Any questions let me know!

Hi,
I wanted to share a few pictures of the makeup I wore to my work christmas party,
Before                                                   After

I used a Catrice Palette previously mentioned here for the shadows and the glitter eye liner is by Collection. The photo's do not do it justice, the glitter liner is gorgeous. The black liner is by 17 and I used Clinique High Impact mascara, That's about it!

*excuse the terrible skin/spots.

Thank you for reading.

*I'm going to moderate this a little as I'm in the UK and some of it doesn't make sense.

1. Favourite Candle scent?
I'm loving Sandal wood at the minute.

2. Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
Coffee all the way, the only thing that gets me out of bed on a cold morning.

3. Do you switch up your makeup routine for the season?
Generally my skin gets a little drier so I switch to more moisturising products. I tend to wear different perfume as well, less sweet.

4. Favourite Christmas food?
I'm a big food lover, so its pretty hard for me to choose a favourite. lets just say the whole christmas dinner ensemble.

5. Hats or scarves?
Scarves. Hats just make my hair a mess.

6. Most worn sweater?
anything with a hood generally.

7. Must have Fall nail polish?
Again, I love nail polish so choosing a favourite is pretty hard. I tend to favour darker polishes, gun metal grey, dark purple, but an all time favourite is Rage by Orly. It's so pretty and perfect for the party season.

8. Football games or jumping in a pile of leaves?
Going to have to decline both of those. Do people really jump in leaves?

9. Skinny jeans or leggings?
Leggings or tights (Primark's Extra Cosy tights are perfect for winter.)

10. Boots or Uggs?
Has to be boots. I never caught on to the whole Ugg boot thing, plus they seem so expensive for a glorified pair of slippers.

11. What is your #1 favorite thing about winter?
I love wrapping up warm, and watching all my favourite xmas films. and snow.

12. Do you have a song that gets you in the Christmas mood or just a song you're loving at the moment?
Slade's - Merry xmas Everyone is the one.

Hi there.

so... it's been a while hasn't it? what 3, 4 months?
I've been meaning to update this blog for a while but it just hasn't happened. Better late than never right? And what better time than just before Christmas! well I say that it's still a month away but I'm so excited I could burst. I'm thinking about doing a few tag posts to get me back into the swing of things, but I guess I should do a little update first.

I'm working full time now, which is good. I'm really enjoying it and it's not in retail which is awesome. Last week I graduated, which was actually pretty cool. The ceremony was as the O2 arena (indigo2). My mum came to stay with us for a few days and I took time off work to spend with her and my brother, it was lovely.

Other than that I'm just working, and enjoying my weekends off.
I'm going to keep this brief, so maybe this will be a comeback? Maybe not. But for now, hello! Happy holidays! And thank you for reading.

xoxo
